A Growth Year

Nature’s Best Photography Africa has experienced a 92% growth in entries from the 2016 year. We are now in our third year and this bodes well for the sustainability of the competition.

But we have grown to become far more than simply the ‘premier annual African nature photography competition in the world’. NBP Africa is now an annual program that works to foster a love for and desire to protect Africa’s natural resources through photography and education.

This year we received thousands of photographs from all over the world that were taken in Africa and submitted for judging by our panel of local and international judges. The winning images are showcased in this publication and at the annual exhibition at the Iziko SA Museum.

We are proud of the quality of the photographs as well as their printing, framing, exhibition curation and publication. These aspects are all among the finest of any nature photography competition in existence today.

The winners are rewarded with prizes that include photographic safaris to some of Africa’s most abundant wildlife areas. The combined value of these acknowledgements of excellence is in excess of R1 million. That is by far the largest prize value of any nature competition in the world.

We made a decision to delay the implementation of the cellular phone camera competition until 2018. This is after the phenomenal increase in the number of entries received.

This year we have launched a ‘People’s Choice’ event, thereby allowing the public to vote on some of the wonderful images that did not quite qualify for the winners’ list, but nevertheless deserve recognition for exceptional merit.

I must take this opportunity to thank our partners without whom Nature’s Best Photography Africa would not be possible: Iziko Museums of South Africa, Nature’s Best Photography Global, our beautiful annual publication (Novus Print Solutions and Van Bookbinders), Nikon, our exclusive camera partners, the prizes (CNP Safaris, & Beyond and Chobe Safari Lodge), Kingfisher our courier partner, Kizo Art Consultants (Marketing & Logistics), Painted Wolf Wines our wine partner, the African Wildlife Foundation our wildlife conservation partner and The Photographer, our exhibition print partner.

Congratulations to the large team from NBP Africa and our partners who have committed so much time and effort to delivering on such a world class and proudly African initiative. I look forward to many more years working together to expand even further on our current efforts.

Thank you for purchasing this publication. The entire proceeds from its sale go to the costs of running the competition, exhibition and education program, thereby making an important contribution to our sustainability.

We invite expressions of interest from other entities and people who are keen and able to contribute and participate in this rewarding journey. I hope that you enjoy the NBP Africa exhibition and that this wonderful publication brings you much joy.

Warm regards
